Namibia Air gets first approvals

The plans to introduce a new government-owned airline may proceed. The proposed Namibia Air got the necessary first licenses from the Transportation Commission of Namibia. The Air Services Licences form the basis for offering scheduled and non-scheduled flights in the future. No objections against the issuing of the licenses were received by the authorities. According to Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi, Namibia Air now needs to obtain an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) before it can begin with its commercial flights. It is still anticipated that the maiden flight of Namibia Air may still be in 2026. Namibia Air, following the bankruptcy of Air Namibia during COVID-19-times, plans to offer national and regional flights with several Embraer aircraft. Currently, only FlyNamibia*, a private airline, is servicing local routes.
