Positive records on crime against tourists

Tourism Protective Subdivision of the Namibian Police (Nampol) has recorded far less cases of crime against tourists. According to Inspector Christina DaFonsech-Shikongo, who leads the subdivision since February 2026, her approach has brought the numbers down. The awareness campaign started with approaching inciming travellers at the Hosea Kutako International Airport.

According to DaFonsech-Shikongo 376 cases were active in February 2026, with only 57 further cases of crime against travellers reported by June, along with 20 suspects. Of these, 36 cases have already been closed following investigation. Whilst robbery originally topped the crime statistics, theft from vehicles has now taken over the top spot

According to DaFonsech-Shikongo one of the biggest stumbling blocks is the fact that many tourists do not speak English and thus cannot communicate as needed with police officers.
