NTB warns illegal hospitality providers

The Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) has once again warned operators of illegal accommodation*. The state body responsible for registering tourism service providers has stated that it will take rigorous action against what are known in Namibia as ‘Airbnbs’. Under the Namibia Tourism Board Act, operators face fines of up to 20,000 Namibian dollars and/or a prison sentence of up to two years.

Before guests can stay in accommodation in return for payment, it must be registered with the NTB in accordance with the law. According to the Tourism Board, this has not been the case in recent years, particularly for hundreds of holiday flats.
